Mandy Race - Artist
Career:
I have taught in schools and colleges across the UK since 1977 and became Course Leader of the BA Hons Textiles Design at Hull School of Art & Design from 1990-2013.
I was appointed Examiner for Doncaster C0lleges BA Hons in Fashion and Textiles in 2012-2013.
My husband Malcolm took early retirement from his career as head of Fine art at Hull School of Art and design. He enrolled on a ceramics course and I went along as his support worker. It was during this time that I discovered a deep passion for the tactile qualities of clay. I started to learn throwing in 2022 and am attempting to bring hand building and throwing together.
My understanding of surface pattern, detail and texture transfers easily to ceramics and three dimensional form.
Diversity:
Along side ceramics I continue to draw people and places, paint and take photographs. I enjoy producing reduction Lino prints, experimenting with thin layers of translucent inks.
I do not like to be restricted to one disipline, and all the work that I produce can be achieved with basic domestic equipment apart from the kiln and potters wheel. My print making is produced with a bottle jack press and level press.
